1. At the same airflow, separatorless HEPA filters are smaller, lighter, easier to install and provide stable efficiency and even air velocity. These advantages are why most air filters on the market use a separatorless structure. A separatorless design can achieve high efficiency with low resistance, reducing operating costs. Hot-melt adhesive maintains uniform pleat spacing, allowing air to pass smoothly while providing high dust-holding capacity and making full use of the media throughout the filter depth. Filters of the same overall size can therefore differ in airflow and dust-holding capacity.2. Separator filters are commonly manufactured in depths of 150 mm or 220 mm, while separatorless filters are usually 50 mm, 69 mm or 90 mm deep, making them lighter and thinner. Separator filters are therefore generally used in large fresh-air systems and HVAC equipment, while separatorless filters are used in residential fresh-air systems and air purifiers.
3. A common efficiency grade for separator filters is H13, mainly for dust particles larger than 0.5 micrometers. Separatorless filters can reach grades from H13 to U17, although lower-efficiency versions are also available. In relative terms, separatorless filters can provide higher efficiency.
4. When filters with the same face area are compared, separatorless filters may deliver somewhat less airflow. For example, a 320 x 320 x 220 mm separator filter may be rated at 500 cubic meters per hour, while a separatorless filter of the same face area may deliver only 400 cubic meters per hour.
5. Separatorless filters used in ventilation systems can avoid metal components, making disposal easier and helping meet increasingly strict environmental requirements. Except in certain special applications requiring high-temperature resistance or very high safety, separatorless filters can replace separator filters.
When humidity changes, separator paper may shed relatively large particles and cause a cleanliness test to fail. Separatorless HEPA filters are therefore recommended for environments with demanding cleanliness requirements. Overseas, separator filters also tend to cost more than separatorless products and are used less frequently.
