“ Bag-filter grade, airflow, pressure drop, dust capacity, and materials determine suitability for HVAC, industrial dust collection, cleanrooms, and process ventilation. ”
Air-filter bag dust-collection filters, referred to below as bag filters, are widely used in industrial and commercial equipment because they offer a high dust-holding capacity, moderate resistance, and customizable filtration efficiency. From the standpoint of matching equipment parameters, their typical applications fall into the following categories.
Medium-Efficiency Filtration in Central Air-Conditioning and Ventilation Systems

Equipment requirements:

Central air-conditioning systems normally require filter airflow in the range of 1,000–6,000 m³/h, depending on unit power. Initial resistance should be kept within 50–150 Pa to avoid increasing system energy consumption, and the filter must fit the installation space in the air-handling unit, with typical bag lengths of 300–1,200 mm and bag widths of 150–400 mm.

Bag filters in grades F5–F9 can match these requirements precisely. For example, an F7 bag filter made with synthetic-fiber media can handle 800–1,200 m³/h per bag at an initial resistance of about 80 Pa. It effectively removes dust particles in the 1–5 μm range, protecting downstream components such as fans and heat exchangers from dust buildup and extending system life.

Prefiltration for Industrial Dust-Collection Equipment

Equipment requirements:

Dust collectors used in grinding, welding, and other dusty workshops—such as pulse-jet collectors and central dust-collection systems—must treat air with a relatively high dust concentration, typically 1–10 mg/m³. Filters therefore need a high dust-holding capacity of at least 500 g/m² and a service-temperature range of approximately −10°C to 80°C to reduce replacement frequency.

Bag filters made from glass fiber or needle-punched nonwoven can meet these requirements. A heat-resistant bag filter, for example, may have a dust-holding capacity of 800 g/m² and a temperature range of −30°C to 120°C. It can capture dust larger than 3 μm and reduce the load on downstream high-efficiency filters.

Prefiltration for Cleanrooms and Laboratories

Equipment requirements:

In the prefiltration stage of a cleanroom air-conditioning system, such as an ISO Class 8 or 9 space, the filter must remove at least 60% of 1 μm particles, corresponding to grade F6 or higher. Air-velocity uniformity across the filter should remain within ±10% to prevent contamination caused by local turbulence.

Multibag filters maintain uniform velocity through suitable spacing between bags, normally at least 50 mm. An F8 filter, for example, removes about 85% of 1 μm particles and protects the downstream high-efficiency filter, reducing wear on the more expensive final media.

Process-Ventilation Filtration in the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries

Equipment requirements:

These applications impose strict hygiene requirements. Filter materials must comply with applicable food-contact standards such as FDA requirements or EU 10/2011, efficiency must remain stable to prevent microorganisms and fine contaminants from passing through, and the media must not shed fibers that could contaminate the product.

Food-grade bag filters use food-contact-approved nonwoven media and achieve F7 efficiency, including at least 80% removal of 3 μm particles. They may be heat sterilized and fitted with corrosion-resistant stainless-steel frames. Such filters suit pharmaceutical-workshop ventilation equipment rated at 2,000–4,000 m³/h and help maintain a clean process environment.

Core Parameter-Matching Logic

The central advantage of a bag dust filter is the ability to customize its parameters. By adjusting the medium—synthetic fiber, glass fiber, or nonwoven—the number of bags, usually 4–12, the dimensions to fit the equipment chamber, and the efficiency grade from F5 to F9, a manufacturer can match the equipment’s airflow, resistance, and filtration-precision requirements. At the same time, the design can balance dust-holding capacity and service life. In applications requiring medium-level purification, this produces an effective performance-to-cost balance and makes the bag filter a highly cost-effective solution.
