1. Do not increase the filter efficiency rating. Cost is not the only issue: the CR Box structure and fan allow it to use only a lower-efficiency filter. A higher-grade filter would sharply reduce airflow and eliminate the advantage of high air volume. Because an air purifier recirculates indoor air, lower filter efficiency is not a major problem; particles missed on the first pass can be filtered on a second pass. A different structure is required if higher single-pass efficiency is needed.2. Choose a fan with a metal impeller whenever possible, because a metal-impeller fan can provide higher air pressure.
3. Choose a fan with as many blades as practical, such as a six-blade model. This type of fan can provide more airflow with less noise.
4. Consider a filter measuring either 492 × 595 × 46 mm or 595 × 595 × 46 mm. Both are standard industrial-filter sizes, so they cost less and are easier to source. A cardboard frame is sufficient; there is no need to spend extra on an aluminum frame. Avoiding unnecessary expense is part of the DIY approach.
5. There is no need to purchase a separate speed controller. Use the fan's built-in speed settings. A triac speed controller will generally cause the motor to produce electromagnetic noise.
